Apple makes it hard to check if iPhones were stolen
Seems like Apple has removed the Activation Lock tool that allows users to check whether a phone is Activation Locked from iCloud.com. The tool allowed to check the serial number or IMEI of iOS devices, showing if Activation Lock was active, helping consumers in avoiding purchase of stolen ones. Now, on icloud.com/activationlock theres only Apple’s 404 “Not Found” page, instead of the tool.
Under the years Activation Lock has become the de facto standard tool for companies who accept iOS devices for donations or trade-ins. Apple hasn’t yet reacted for a request for comment.
